My patients asked me to write The Bipolar Handbook so they could see the answers to their questions in a book that they could take home to read and share with their families and friends. My doctor and therapist friends asked for a book they could share with their patients.
I want The Bipolar Handbook to be as if you and I were sitting sitting down and talking face-to-face so that I can give you individual counsel and cutting-edge information on the topics that you choose. For the last twenty years, I have been writing down all the questions asked by my bipolar patients, their families and their friends. I asked my professional friends what questions they were asked, and I scoured the Internet to find questions that had not been satisfactorily answered by patients doctors and therapists. The Bipolar Handbook is a compilation of those real-life questions with up-to-date answers gathered from modern medical and psychological I organized The Bipolar Handbook into topics like the causes of bipolar disorder, how to find out if you have bipolar disorder, the medical risks of bipolar disorder and the effects of bipolar disorder on our culture. I discuss healthy lifestyle changes that can minimize bipolar symptoms and help you sleep normally, lose weight, increase energy and minimize stress. I explain bipolar medications and how to choose them, new medications soon to be available and new bipolar treatments that do not require medications. There is a chapter devoted to choosing partners and keeping relationships healthy and another on how to select and succeed in a career. One chapter is devoted to special problems experienced by women with bipolar disorder. Another explains how to avoid crises and what family and friends can do to help their loved one with bipolar disorder.
The book ends with a comprehensive listing of bipolar organizations, government and private websites and bipolar suppor |
